Tokyo Jihen (東京事変 trans. Tokyo Incidents), the rock band led by the charismatic vocalist Shiina Ringo (椎名林檎), announced its breakup on their website a couple of weeks ago. Shiina's brief but extraordinary solo career prior to formation of Tokyo Jihen in 2003 inspired so many people of my generation, just like Flipper's Guitar did to the previous generation. Tokyo Jihen was less radical and controversial than Shiina's solo works, but more fun and maturer. I felt sad to hear the news.
